Why Science Communication?
I was inspired to apply for the Professional Writing Minor for Science Communication by my friend, Janna. They inspired me to branch out in the science world after seeing how passionate I was to share science with others. Through this track, I learned valuable skills to bridge the connection between scientists and the public.
About Me
I am a Chemistry student at the University of California, Santa Barbara. In Spring 2025, I completed my Professional Writing Minor for Science Communication. Enjoy exploring my page where I showcase my capstone project for Vitamin D Deficiency and other genres of writing and multimedia works.
Vitamin D Deficiencies: Magazine
I created a magazine called Glow and Grow for adults aged 50+ to inform them about Vitamin D deficiences and let them know about what resources are out there.
Vitamin D Deficiencies: Multimedia
I used the social media platform Tiktok to spread awareness about Vitamin D deficiencies in a fun, casual, and engaging way. I wrote the scripts, edited, and directed each video.
Science Communication was led by Dr. Amanda Stansell, who encouraged us to challenge ourselves with our capstone projects. I chose to pursue Vitamin D research and was successful in connecting to one of my targeted audiences via Tiktok.

In preparation for Science Communication, I took Science Literacy with Lecturer Kenny Smith. My project "Flight of the Killer Bee" is a historic overview of the honeybee experiment done by geneticist Warwick Kerr in the 1960's.
Under the instruction of Lecturer Martha Webber, I created a podcast with my peers to practice audio recording, editing, and website building. Together, we created a podcast geared towards college students to talk about similar experiences and give our advice.
